Alpine Formula 1 sim racing steering wheel replica set for launch next year | Traxion

Oct 24, 2024

Trak Racer is best known for its sim racing cockpits and seats. At the ADAC SimRacing Expo 2024, the Australian company presented a prototype of its first replica Fomrula 1 wheel launching next year: the Alpine A522.

Trak Racer’s new wheel is an exact replica of the wheel used in the BWT Alpine Formula 1 A522 car driven by Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon in the 2022 championship. It helped Alpine finish fourth in the Constructor’s Championship that year, beating McLaren.

Joining other F1 replica sim racing wheels like the Thrustmaster Ferrari SF1000, Track Racer’s A522 Alpine Steering Wheel will boast an LED touchscreen and customisable RGB LEDs.

Unlike VPG’s lightweight Ford Mustang GT3 wheel, its construction isn’t fully carbon-fibre, but it will feature a mix of carbon-fibre components and rubber-coated surfaces, along with paddle shifters and a dual-clutch with five modes. The wheel can be connected wirelessly with an optional coiled cable.

The A522 Alpine Steering Wheel will launch in the second half of 2025, but pricing has yet to be announced.

Alongside the Alpine A522 Steering Wheel, Trak Racer showcased a range of prototypes at this year’s ADAC SimRacing Expo, previewing new peripherals set to go on sale next year.

Among them was a new direct drive-wheelbase built with aluminium alloy, with multiple torque options for different budgets. Traxion understands the top wheelbase will deliver up to 30Nm peak torque, putting it up against high-end wheelbases from the likes of Simucube.

Launching in the second half of 2025, Trak Racer’s direct-drive wheelbase will include a custom case with configurable LED strips and a quick-release system compatible with real racing car steering wheels.

In addition, the Australian outfit will launch a new three-pedal set with a metal construction. It will feature a 200kg load cell on the brake and 35kg on the throttle and clutch.

This will be joined by a new sequential gear shifter featuring a polished aluminium shifter knob and adjustable resistance and a handbrake add-on with a 200kg load cell. These accessories will go on sale in the first half of next year, with pricing to be confirmed.

Trak Racer’s new peripherals will be configurable in a new bespoke device manager developed for over two years. When it launches in early 2025, the software will be compatible with a range of sim racing titles, including iRacing and Assetto Corsa EVO.
