It is a well-known fact that in China, there are many car manufacturers that copy designs of popular models in the foreign market and create a version of it for their market. This is mostly because China has a restrictive automobile market that does not allow easy access to foreign carmakers. Recently we had come across images of Chinese copy of Suzuki Jimny. This time, they have copied the design of Land Rover Defender SUV and the manufacturer who copied the Defender is Chery and the SUV is now called Jetour Traveller.

In the past we have seen many examples where these Chinese car manufacturers have copied design of popular cars. Chery is a popular auto manufacturer from China. They recently showcased the Jetour Traveller and in terms of design the SUV would remind you of the Land Rover Defender. Like many other copycat car from China, the main aim of this SUV was to offer its customer and SUV with off-roading capabilities at an affordable price.

Just like any other SUV, the Jetour Traveller is also a ladder-on-frame SUV. The front-end of the SUV has been designed differently. The Jetour badge can be seen on the front grille and the grille is completely blacked out. The design of the headlamps are squarish however, the design of the lights in it are different. The lights are all LEDs. The bumper looks rugged and the fog lamps or auxiliary lamps are integrated with the bumper of this SUV only. The design of the bonnet, wheel arches and the fenders are all similar to that of a Land Rover Defender.

The side profile of the Chinese SUV is boxy and it definitely looks like a Defender from this angle. They have somehow managed to replicate even the minor details like footsteps and door handles. The design of the rear quarter glass is different from Defender however, the overall design is very similar to the original SUV. The SUV does offer large alloy wheels and the design of the wheels are different from original Defender.

At the rear, the spare wheel is mounted on the tailgate and the tail lights are vertically stacked just like in the Defender. The design of the light is slightly different and the spare wheel cover is slightly squarish too. Just like the front, rear bumper on this Jetour Traveller is also finished in black and that gives it a rugged look. This is a 5-door SUV and looks similar to the Land Rover Defender 110.

Coming to the engine and transmission details, Chery is planning to offer the Jetour Traveller with a turbo-petrol, petrol-hybrid and a Plug-in Hybrid EV versions. The SUV is expected to use a 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine. This engine will be offered with a 7-speed DCT gearbox. petrol hybrid version will use a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The PHEV version is expected to get a 1.5 litre turbocharged engine which will work along with an electric motor. All these variants of the SUV will be offered with 4WD. Surprisingly there are no diesel engines on offer.
