Watch Ken Block Shred Tires In His 730

Jun 20, 2023

Hold on, because watching Ken Block go sideways in his awesome 730hp Audi Sport Quattro is one rollicking ride!

The Audi Sport Quattro, despite being a bit disproportionate, has been hailed as one of the most iconic cars in the history of motorsport and cars in general. It's fast, loud, and lethal, which is understandably why Ken Block has one.

Audi built only 214 of these cars, and not every single one was road-legal. It isn't common to see someone buying an Audi Quattro Sport in this day and age, but Ken Block seems to have done so with a replica he bought - and he's turned it into something that wants to eat other drift cars for breakfast as oatmeal.

It's a tire slayer in every sense of the word, and apart from its aftermarket wheels, the rest of the car looks like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Ken Block's Audi replica has been built by LCE Performance and is a perfect mimic of the original.

This car started out as the Turbo Monster in red but has now been painted white, and we think it looks way cooler. While the original Audi Sport Quattro was powered by a 2.1-liter, turbo, inline-five engine that pushed out 302hp, this beast gets an in-line five, 2.5-liter engine.

It also features a modified 20-valve cylinder head from the Audi S2, and with turbo-boost thrown in for good measure, it produces 730hp. The all-wheel-drive setup stays, and the engine is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The video starts with the Audi zipping past, soon after which, Ken is found inside, ready as always, and revving the nuts and bolts out of his Sport Quattro. Zac Mertens starts off with an introduction, slowly walking towards Ken and his Audi which looks subtle on the outside, until you're strapped-in and let loose in it, that is. Ken talks about the car being shown at the SEMA auto show for the first time, displayed at the Toyo booth.

Ken goes on to explain that he has tested the car a little, but the full-blown test is the one you see in this video. He's at Willow Springs, California, and he seems to know everything he's about to do is borderline insane. He says it's a 1984 Sport Quattro replica, also known as the 'Turbo Monster'.

This is a day about loud pops and crackles from the exhaust, donuts, and the smell of burning rubber in the air. But before we jump to the car in action, let's cover some of the details that make this car special. It gets sporty Recaro seats with graphics on the inside, the signature Hoonigan handbrake, and among other things, features a regular parking brake!

Ken gives us a walk-around look at the car's details, the first of which he points out is the "Carcain" license plate at the rear. The car features a custom-made Borla exhaust that looks like it'll blurt out fire, and when you look into it, it looks very different from any other exhaust you've seen.

It looks like there are multiple tinier exhausts in it, giving it a floral pattern look. After getting into the Audi, he fires it up; it sounds loud, but that's only for as long as he revs it and warms up the engine, after which, it gets even louder.

The camera starts recording from inside the car; the excitement starts building up. Ken quickly puts his foot down and goes up a gear through the manual shifter, which is then followed by the turbo hissing. The blow-off valves play their part too.

The Audi Sport Quattro replica surges ahead, making all the right noises - and it's so loud, it echoes amidst the hills around. Anyone with a pair of binoculars, standing on top of the hills, will hear the in-line 5-cylinder engine at its highest pitch, as it grunts, snarls, and snorts its way through the curvy ribbons of the track. After the car comes to a halt, he revs the engine again, which almost seems like he's causing chaos.

Now it's time he goes sliding around, smoking tires on what they like calling 'The Balcony'. Some proper drone views of the track reveal all the tire marks on the track from before, almost looking like the track has been painted black with tires alone.

Ken heads out, pulling at the handbrake frequently to get the car to go sideways. There's lots of smoke; the Toyo tires are clearly being punished without sympathy. Tires squealing, engine rip-snorting, and the all-important 'stuu-stuu-stuuuu' keep resonating so much, it fills the entire location with the sound.

After a quick break, he heads for the blue barrels. The Audi can be found driving down the straight, and while at it, it makes a jump over a slope and lands perfectly. He's at the handbrake again, this time dodging the blue barrels. We're certain four tires were destroyed in the making of this video!
